Anyone have a good load for 45-75 Winchester

I am a newbee for sure to reloading, did some in the 70's for 300 win mag, then cam kids and life and now find myself retired and back in the 70's again in a different way, if you know what I mean, Anyway going to try my hand at 45-75 Winchester. I am wanting to use smokeless and can not find a load for it or if I have to add something to take up the space in the shell if the powder is not larger enough. Anyone with experience please share

IMR 4198 has worked very well in mine. Shooters World Buffalo Rifle and Trail Boss also has worked well in mine. Your biggest challenge will be the brass.

The 45-70 is just like a sledge hammer, you let the head do the work. It does not take speed. So many powders work in the 45-70 at so many levels. Unique is very good for light loads without need for any filler.
Pay attention to your action type and keep within the pressures listing for that action, a trap door is not even close to a #1.

The 45/70 and the 45/75 are not the same, you can't load them the same. Keep the velocities below 1400, and your gun will stay intact. So will your shoulder. A 300-350gr bullet will do the job if put in the right place without mega velocities.

Is your 45-75 WCF an original 1876, or a Uberti?

Don't be askeerd of Lord Black, or heavier bullets. The "-75" at the end of the cartridge ID is a hint.

    I load my .45-70 with 65 gr of 1.5FG.
