    Moldy powder

I posted under one or the stickies, but maybe no one saw. I have some Accurate 2495 that smells like vapo rub and mold. Is this going bad or something else causing the smell? Never heard of moldy powder.

Sounds like it is going bad. How old is it and how was it stored?

Probably 8 years, but don't know how long it was on the dealers shelf. Stored in the house. No fumes and no discoloration, but probably best to toss it.

I think there is a recall on one batch of 2495 right now.

I can't remember, maybe 4350, but there was another scare I had a couple years back where lots between xx and yy were subject to recall and mine fell into that range. The instructions said to pour it out and contact Western powders for a replacement, in that order. I did what they said, in that order, and after emailing a picture I was told my lot was not subject to recall. YAY, now I have an empty can of $30 fertilizer. After that I've been trying to use up my Accurate powders with the intention of replacing them with Hodgdon and Alliant. I'm sure Hodgdon will tun that a bit tighter now that they bought Western, but I kinda dislike monopolies. We need some small companies with good attention to detail and quality control. At least I'm now 7/8ths of a pound closer to being out of Accurate stuff. Gotta see if I've got any ammo left I loaded with that junk.
