    What is it?????

From my friend who is moving to the lower 48.
At first I thought it was a broken shell extractor, but then I saw it has rifling on it, and no way to pull it out.
The hole doesn't go all the way through, and is not threaded.

That looks like a piece of a tap handle. A nut threaded on the end to tighten the collet on a shaft. The other end used to have a T handle. I could be wrong.

My first thought also. I have seen that part somewhere.

It is certainly a collet of some form. Taps, at least new ones, usually have a square end to them that is also machined into the collet.

Looks kind of like part of the pencil attachment for my Dremel

    Ding!-Ding!-Ding! We have a winner!

It's made to thread onto the cleaning rod and follow the rifling down from the muzzle, catch the broken cartridge body and extract it out the breech.

    Made for a Trapdoor????
From the looks of it, it screws on to the cleaning rod, is pushed down the muzzle, goes into the shell, turn the cleaning rod to expand the fingers, and push the shell out.
It that how it's suppose to work?????

Yes, exactly. It's made specific for the Springfield .45 Rifle with three groove 1:22 twist barrel.

Last I've seen they sell for about $12.00.
