I would respectfully suggest getting any less expensive common chambered short-action Ruger Model 77 and have the barrel re-bored to .358 & rifled to your druthers.

This ^^^^ but do it to a Ruger Scout. The gun will never know the difference between .308 and .358, and you won't have any problems with feeding from the magazines.

Send it to JES to rebore and rifle. He knows exactly what to do. Just send the barreled action and you will be able to just bolt it all back together when it comes back. He'll make sure the headspace is correct and everything.

It should look about like this when done. Either Red Dot or Scope. You'll need the XS Scout Rail with integral Aperture Sight so you have back up sights... Make sure to Zero the Irons first, before installing the Optic.

Then you'd have a Proper Scout Rifle in .358 Win.

i must be going thru my midlife crisis too, except i do have an ex-wife . my gf likes to shoot, so i do two fer one.

i'm going try a scout scope. its mounted on whathisnamethingyajimmer scope mount with a 2-7x vortex on a 1908 brazilian mauser in 7x57. now all i need is take 140gr fn gc, load them up and shoot. the whatchacallit scope mount is cheap(i found it in my junk drawer) and if, and i say IF, the scope mount is somewhat accurate, then i'll look at s&k scope mounts or better.

Ladies and Gents- My 358 hunting rifle is a 700Rem action, mated to a 20" PacNor cm barrel with a 16" twist. Had it stocked in Kevlar by MPI stocks of Coos Bay, OR in a Mannlicher style (to the muzzle) with schnabel.
I chose the 16" twist since this is primarily a cast boolit rifle. It handles the 358009 boolit nicely when needed, but most of my work is in the 180-225gr range. Wish I knew how to post a pic for you to see her! She went to New Zealand in 2003 and did everything I could ask on hares to Stag. Reduced loads with cast 150-180gr work so very well!!! Leupold compact 2-7x optics with irons as well.
