    Odd Contender Barrel

Any of you know any thing about a 9MM Mag 9 x 33 chambering for a Contender? Brother picked one up as part of a deal and I can't find any info on it. I've emailed Van Horn since his name is on the barrel but was curious if anyone else could provide info on the chambering.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/9mm_Winchester_Magnum

"... developed by Winchester in the late 1970s. The cartridge was developed to duplicate the performance of the .357 S&W Magnum in an auto-pistol cartridge. The first handgun which chambered the cartridge was the Wildey pistol. Since then, Thompson/Center has produced barrels chambered for this cartridge ..."

    Is it straight walled?

If not maybe it is a 7.92×33mm Kurz necked up to 9mm ???

Sounds like time to do a chamber cast to find out just what it is *.

Then decide if custom dies are needed or if there is a work around to use what you or your brother have.

    Robert

    * A wise thing to do with any wildcat that doesn't come with dies.

well, there is a military cartridge that is a 9x33 size. it is a bottleneck cartridge too. It appears that Lapua made it for the French as a sub caliber training round. electrically primed.

Would that barrel be from Dave Van Horn in Gilbert AZ.
He has done a couple of barrels for me and some machining on parts for me since I left my lathe in California

I think it was made by Dave Van Horn. Sent him an email yesterday but haven't gotten a response. Starting to think maybe it was a 9MM Winchester Mag but was lengthened for specific loads.

Does it look like a straight wall chamber or a bottleneck?
