Hard Day, Lost my Only Brother

The title says it. My brother left us early in the morning of May 20 due to liver failure at the age of 63. Sharing will all of you because I'm numb even though we knew it was coming.

He was an exceptionally bright and funny individual, winning creative writing competitions in high school. He was a true expert in his field of general aviation. He was factory trained at Piper and Cessna. He was a factory tech rep for Continental and Lycoming engines and Mooney aircraft. Set an FAI recognized speed record in a Mooney Ovation averaging a little over 204 knots from San Antonio to Oshkosh. That just describes the tip of the iceberg for his skills. He powered his boat with a 440 CID engine he built to Chrysler's Grand National specs. That was a wild ride in a 19' Century.

The volume of knowledge that someone like him takes with them when they go is a loss for many. Worse is that I will never get to pick his brain again for a bit of his vast knowledge or sit and laugh at our escapades. He thought my powder coated .38 Special loads with a Lee 358-158-RF were the best shooting ammunition he ever shot so at least he had good taste.

    Hate to hear that.
Look on the bright side though. You had a good brother with whom to spend a lifetime. Many don't get that opportunity.

I'm usually not very active as to posting a lot here, but your loss strikes me. I also have but one brother, he's just a bit younger and we're both seniors at this life game and I tell ya, if either of us goes it will devastate the other with a void that can't be filled. I'm sorry to learn of your loss.

Prayers go out to you and your family. Not an easy time but let all of the good memories you shared help provide you and your family find some comfort.

Condolences. Time will help with the pain. Focus on the good memories.

Condolences for the loss of your cherished brother!

Flying family here with a Cessna Skylane (they are Continental powered) in our past and a Super Cub with Lycoming power in the present so we understand the level of skill and specialization your brother had.

If it is any consolation, he’s probably breaking new speed records now.

Lost my best friend recently, he was really a brother to me.

Its bad, it sucks and it hurts like hell.

Although it hurts less as time goes on, the loss will probably never go away completely.

None of that is why I'm writing. I'm writing to let you know that you are not lonely in your loss. For me, it was difficult for me to talk to anybody about it, still is over a year later, because I dont think they understand how much this effected me.

As soon as you can, talk to somebody, even us.

Dont know what else to say.

Sorry for your loss. Sounds like he was a heck of a guy and really impacted those around him. Condolences to your family.

I have one brother left, after losing the other nearly 20 years ago. I still miss him and the memory of his death still stings.
