    First time at 400 yds

Was at a shooting get together last Saturday and had the chance to shoot 400 yds. Using my custom Ruger 77 in 458 AccRel.(a 458 Lott size case) The was a .460 340 gr RNFP at 2100. The rifle is sighted in at 2” high at a 100 yds and hits 4” low at 200yds. My first shot I held about 3 ft over a 8” steel gong. The hit was 5’ low. Second shot I held about 8’ high at a small clump of grass and the bullet just missed the gong by 1/4” low at 6 o’clock. Third shot I held on the top of the clump of grass and Clang!!! Not to bad for the first time shooting past 200 in 15 yrs and the first time with a elephant rifle.

That’s an awesome accomplishment. How are you going to top that?
The sooner I fall behind...the more time I have to catch up with

    What range were you at?

I remember the first time I shot a 600 yd practice. I got a lot pf info from a friend and laid there on my mat looking at that target wondering just what I had gotten into. I had counted up the rear sight on my garand. First shot was a low 8 corrected and shot a 189 / 200

I shoot skeet at that club occasionally. Years ago I won a ham there on that range. I hit a clay pigeon at 300 yards using my friend's Ruger M77 in .243! One shot. He tried 10 more times at $2.50 a shot and never hit!

Yes I can see that but before I get more involved I am going to get to ditch the elephant rifle for something smaller.......
