I always liked his articles on rifles and shotguns, too.
Myself and friends fixed our Govt models up with Pachmayrs and Bomars and Swenson stuff back in the day and tried to shoot as well as him, haha .

Is Ross still around? He used to be very active in various gun magazines. I always liked his articles.

Ah! The good old days. Did a lot of the same. Today 30 years on you can buy a 1911 with just about all the improvements included in a production gun. Ross was and is a great writer. Highly informative.

I also like long triggers and flat mainspring housings on 1911's. Beavertails are nice, but I couldn't slip one on an issued 1911, while I could the flat mainspring housing. That and a set of King's Hardball sights and I was happy.

By just adding the flat mainspring housing, I could prevent getting hammer bite that the arched "improvement" gave me.

There is a 2019 article in Shooting Times by a Ross Seyfried. Where did you get your information?
Since he and I are less than a year difference in age (I am 68) the pictures of him in this article sure look much older than if he passed away in the 1980's. He would have been in his 30's

He was writing for RIFLE/HANDLOADER in the late 1990's at least. It may have been into the mid 2000's not sure.

The fact that no one can verify his dying is impressive.
My guess is that he is still alive.

He is my favorite gun writer.

He had a very low tolerance for BS from editors, IIRC. He wrote for the double journal after and while running an Oregon Elk ranch. I really enjoyed his writings about handguns as he was one who walked the walk as well as the talk. He won a world handgunning championship in the late 70's that was held in South Africa. He stayed and worked as a Professional Hunter and guide before moving back stateside and writing.

Ross is very much alive and living in Kentucky. He does still write for the "Single Shot and Double Gun Journal".

Have no idea who you are talking about. I am 68 years old. Too much evidence it isnt Ross Seyfried. The Ross Seyfried that was a friend to Elmer Keith that is.

Seyfried could write in such a way that someone who had no particularly interest in the topic itself would wind up being interested because of the way he wrote about it. I don’t recall reading a single dull Seyfried article.

He was the proprietor of the Singing Wind Elk Ranch, and I remember hearing of his broil with the editor of Rifle/Handloader. A lot of writers have had that problem with editors, Charles Askins and Jack O’Connor among them. Some people become “editors” simply by following the Style Guide for the Dick and Jane children’s readers. They could make Winston Churchill sound like an illiterate moron.
