Load data help for 97* primers

Ok so I still very new to shot shell reloading but I have around 1200 Remington and Winchester 97* primers. As these are getting old I would like to use before using my newer supplies. I have a wide variety of 209 primers. Now I've been told that because of the open flash hole on the primers, I should stick to bigger flake powders like any of the Dots. My real issue is a lack of data that I've been able to find for 97*s I'm hoping to reload for 12g 2 3/4 00 buck and for 1 1/8 shoot. Maybe some 7/8oz or 1oz slugs. So I could use any help on a source for data or your own recipes I can use to safely workup a load for me. Also info on if the hulls or wads have changed or become available under a different company. Most powders are easily available to me but I have a lot of older Green dot I use. The hulls I have available are the newer Winchester AA, Universal. Remington Nitros, Gun club, international. Federal fiber base hulls and others. Any help or guidance or this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance.

most 97 did not have a cover over the hole. they were made for the large "flake " type like green dot , reddot the like
so dont use a small type in them
the data works same , but just stay with the large flake type

In looking through an old BPI manual, every *57 primer is listed as being equivalent to a Winchester 209 (or a CCI 157, but good luck finding those). I don't think there is much difference between a 57 and a 97 other than a small difference in size.

Use load data for Winchester 209 primers, and you should be ok.

“IF” I recall, the old *97 primers were for the paper or cork bases in hulls from the ‘70s, but my memory may well be faulty. I do remember loading the remington hulls and getting a face full of dislodged cork or paper at ejection occasionally.

I never gave much mind to the kind of primers I used. I usually loaded below maximum, so I never had any issues. I also used mostly flake powder, maybe that helped. A guy gave me a few #s of 296, but the paper hulls I used had been loaded so many times it leaked out. I had to trade some work for AA hulls to use it. I grew up poor and country.

If you google Rem. 97 primers you will get lots of info regarding using them. Basically I believe they are essentially rem. 209's w/o a flashhole cover.

So the images below were taken from a Hercules reloading pamphlet form around the mid 80s. Images look blurry but clear on the originals on my phone. If anyone is looking for any of this load data PM me and I'll text the pics to you. Here is one load I'm going to work up. 1 1/8 shoot, 12g 2 3/4 WWAA hulls, Rem 97* primers, WWAA12 white wads, 21gn Green Dot. This will produce a load with 10,400psi a dram of 3 1/4 and a velocity of 1255fps.
