Redding powder scale?

Anyone using one and if so, how do you like it? Been looking at them and
would like some opinions on how accurate they are and any problems
with them. Thanks for any info.

Bought a new one about 5 years ago and I didn’t like the adjustment screw for zeroing the scale.Bought the RCBS scale instead like it better

I bought one about 6 months back. It’s simple, it works, and I’ve had no issues, but I do wish the pan wasn’t stamped aluminum.

i do belive that all powder scale pans are stamped aluminun. if not what else would they be??

Redding's tools are excellent quality.

No magnetic damped balance scale of any major brand or age is inaccurate or insensitive ... that is, unless the user fails to keep it undamaged, clean and adjusted for zero. And mechanical scales don't ever drift off calibration or need batteries or 110 v. AC power cords; I really like that!

I have one that I bought used in the early '60s. Back then they were painted a crinkle finish brown. I strayed one time & bought a digital scale. I'm back to the old Redding.

On the rare occasion that I use the digital I use the Redding to check the accuracy of the digital.

I used my brothers redding for years and got a Lyman when he wanted his back, my advice buy the Redding and don't consider the Lyman, I am thinking of painting my Lyman green and throwing it into long grass. Regards Stephen

Please don't be deceived into thinking the current Redding #2 is the same #2 of the 1960-90's. Yes, it might look the same, but over the last 10-15 years like many of the other beam scales, quality has subtly been eroded. Long gone are the nicely etched beams to be replaced by an applied tape - No longer a nice knurled and round nosed level adjuster, now a bolt out of the parts bin.

I use my Redding scale that I bought in the early 80s , and it has never not done it's job , I love it .
I'm disappointed to hear the quality has went down to say the least .

I'm puzzled. Exactly what is it about the Lyman scale that you don't like?

I had a Hornady that used stamped steel that was plated over with chrome or zinc. It was much nicer in that the smooth surface didn't allow for powder flakes to get stuck to it.

They aren't as nice as they once were but they are still a quality product, made in the USA, and backed by a good warranty. I have no major qualms about mine and wouldn't hesitate to purchase another.

I prefer a (3) poise scale over a (2) poise of any brand. Just a preference. It is not better because of this alone.

This left Dillon as the only option that is new to me. Buying a used one off the internet did not speak to me.

The Pacific is a 3 poise scale and are very good. I've used one for 30 years and just
want something different. You know what I mean......

Might want to avoid the Redding #1 , it has oil damping reservoir instead of magnetic damper ...
the oil damper "sucks rocks" and oil can spill and get all over everything and the reservoir collects dust .
Get something with magnetic damper ... Anything is better !
