    marking on 9mm case

    load was Bayou Bullets 125gr PC LRN, 4.0 & 4.2gr Bullseye; fired 5 of each loading, but not sure
    which load made the marks. bullet is more cone shaped, not sure of OAL, a bit less that some JHP's i've been running ok

    patterned great, but found the fired cases with these marks on 3 of 10;
    primers & rest of case ok, black powder & marks only on one side of case;
    loaded great from factory mags.

    Gun is Ruger Security 9 compact with around 100 rounds thru it;
    looked in the chamber & didn't see anything.
    what sez the hive before i load a bunch more (like the 4gr load better)

    Speer has 3.8 Bullseye as maximum, with 125 gr lead. The brass looks a little beat up, like my 9mm brass. Normal, OK. The dark part is like my 45acp 3.8 Bullseye loads. Ok.

    Those look "scratched and annealed" from here. What brand of brass is that? What does the other 7 cases look like?

    May just be the light, but those look like they still have a very health crimp. If so, back that off some. Otherwise I’d load an shoot 50-100 at 3.8g and see how you like them and what a larger sample of brass looks like.

    It looks to me like overcrimping. Take a really close look at the case mouths, (especially the middle one) where the crimp is. If you over do the crimp the case mouth can slip down into the freebore and they will usually still look like they have a crimp when fired as the casemouth was supported by the smaller diameter freebore. The cases are also often very dirty as its harder for the pistol cases to expand up and seal off the chamber when the case mouths are being held off of the chamber walls because they're inside of the freebore.
