I have loaded the 45acp shot loads using only cardboard wad over powder and a cardboard wad over the shot. I have never found a need to source .410 wads for the 45 shot loads. The ones I loaded would cycle my full size Kimber, but weren't too stout. I also go decent patterns out of the shot loads.
I used the cardboard from Winchester primer packaging if I remember correctly.
