For much else other than 10 or 12 guage, you're sort of getting off into uncharted waters with it.

Ya might try to sell or trade it off for what ya want rather than dumping it out.

Do reload pistol or revolver rounds? If you don't have a good feel for its burn rate, I'd be tempted to treat it as if it was Alliant Bullseye, make 6-12rounds of mild .38 Special, shoot them in a .357 Magnum (for insurance), and see if they feel less or more energetic than rounds made with the same charge weight of Bullseye.

I think that steel and pro reach are the only two powders that Alliant, or previously Hercules, but Hercules never made these two, has never provided data for any handgun cartridges. but I have noticed that ballistic products has shotshell load data for steel that goes beyond what Alliant has published

Lots of good info about "Steel" in this old thread.
    https://castboolits.gunloads.com/sho...-Alliant-Steel

I've heard they came out with "Steel" to replace Blue Dot when they came to the conclusion that Blue Dot was difficult to ignite in shotshells at very cold temps.

Please don't take it, that it's a direct replacement, it is NOT.
this thread has better info about it's replaceability.

That can't be true. STEEL is every bit as hard to ignite as Blue dot, and it may even be more so. You won't see too many shotgun loads with STEEL with weaker primers, where Bluedot works fine. STEEL was created for 1 purpose only, to maximize velocity with steel shot. It does that job really well, but it doesn't do much else all that well. Reports show it does good with slug loads, and higher velocity lead shot loads. I've never seen anyone happy with it in handguns, apparently it is inconsistent when not compressed. That and the fact it is about the only powder that meters even worse than 800x.
