    Need help on coatings

Hey guys I am totally new to casting boolits, gona take me awhile to start spellin bullets new way. My question is I purchased a 45 caliber mold. When it came it had PC on it. I did not know what that meant. Found out it meant powder coating. Well in my shooting for the past 72 years I have never heard of and certainly never shot any kind of boolit that had even baby powder on it. Obviously I am not going to powder coat. I do have Lee Alox I use. Wondering it I use it to lube my cast bullets that call for powder coating, will that cause a problem. These boolits do not have the grooves for wax.

    Thanking ya'll in advance, Jfinkjr

Welcome to Cast Boolits! If your as cast diameter is OK, your alox may work out. PC usually ads a little to the diameter, so hopefully the mold doesn't cast too small. What caliber are you casting for?

If your mold is marked 'PC' it's very likely from Arsenal Molds and you're going to need to determine if the 'as cast' diameter will work for your specific caliber. FWIW...Jared at Arsenal has done a couple of 'PC' molds for me and both were cut to nominal groove diameter (like .307/.308 for a .30 cal. bore) to allow for the powder coating to be sized to a final diameter. My suggestion would be to look up the mold maker's website and get the design dimensions for your particular mold. If the specified diameter is anything more than .001 less than your groove diameter, I seriously doubt if tumble-applied Alox is going to work for you.

The lube is not going to work on a smooth sided bullet. The grooves are there for a reason.

Why did you buy it if you were not going to use PC?

I'm gonna go with this: "When it came it had PC on it. I did not know what that meant."
