    Where does Reloder 12 shine?

I purchased 10 pounds of Reloder 12 several years ago from a local store going out of business. I have the Hodgdon 26th edition manual, and it lists loads for this powder but I am not seeing any caliber where it excels over another powder. Most loads will have slower fps, and higher pressure than other powders. Maybe that is why they no longer make this flavor of powder? If anyone could share what caliber they load with it that would be great.

    Thank You

I haven't used it before but this is what the 6'th edition of 'Propellant Profiles' has to say about it...

Isn't Reloder 12 relabeled LeveRevolution? I think I have a burn rate chart somewhere that indicates this. I will see if I can find it and post.

ReLoder 12 has been out of production for quite a few years. It a 'stick' kind of like Reloder 15 but faster that was produced by Hercules/Alliant. Leverevolution is a recent ball powder that is currently in production under the Hodgdon label. Reloder 12 was sort of in the 4895 burning range and did work well in the 30-30, 300 Savage, 308 Win and similar cartridges. Good powder but disappeared from current manuals due to being discontinued.

According to Paul from Alliant ...RL12 falls just about midway between RL 10x & RL 15

I had an un-opened pound of Reloader 12, loaded it all into .30-30 Win.

ReLoader 12 was my favorite for .223 back when it was available. Seemed cooler and gave better velocity and accuracy in my experience.

I load 223 3030 and 308 so I guess this powder will work its way into those calibers one of these days. Thank you for the article that was a good read. I see 6.5x55 on the list I would like to try this powder in 6.5 CM but I'm sure this powder was long out of production before the 6.5 CM became a factory cartridge.

yup anything that shines with 4895 burning rates.

I've used RL12 in the .35Whelen and .35Rem. Excellent medium burn powder that delivers some of the highest velocities without causing excessive pressures in a most .308 and .30/06 capacity cases. (I believe, the late, M.D. Smith published loads using this powder, as well.)

No I didn't .....we were talking about RL 16 and where it fell as far as burn speed ....He mentioned 10x , 11, 12 and 15 and the fact that it(12) was closer to the middle of 10x and 15 ...not closer to 10x or 11 ...

So not only is it numerically between .....it would be closer to RL 13 if their was a 13 ... just like any burn chart they really don't tell you where a powder is...
