Stocks off, scope too if it has one. He does need to test fire it.

I don't think so. When I sent him my Model 64 to punch out to 35/30-30, it didn't appear to have been stripped down. I believe he just removed the bolt and punched it out. Since the 38/55 and the 30-30 (I assume that is what you have) both headspace off of the rim, and share the same rim, headspace is not going to be a problem.

I contacted s couple of reboring services when needing a Belgium Browning BAR rebored and they all said noway. Evidently Brownings have a lot of chrome in them and Dan Pederson at Classic Barrel and Gunworks told me that he wouldn't touch it. I called Jes and he said send it to him. A week later it was a 338-06 from a former 30-06 and it never shot as well as it does now. He is a treasure for sure.

You do not need to take the wood off, but you can if you want. I sent the entire gun minus the scope.

Just to note JES quality/performance. A few years ago, I sent a Sako 243 sporter for rebore to 1/12" 358 Win and it is a tack driver. I cannot overemphasize how pleased I am with his work.

I spoke with Jesse last week about reboring my No.1 Mk3* to 35-303. I had left a voicemail the afternoon before and he called me the next evening.
Point of interest… he said on the SMLE, he wants the barrel removed from the action. That’s a first for me. He’s done several other bolt guns before with the barreled action.

Might be something with the bridge configuration.
