krag stock and 98 mauser scoped

i have finished my krag stock. i used citristip(4 times ), sanded the stock(340 and 400 grit), cheesecloth it, put on barley dark oil woodfiller(2 days), 400 grit and 0000 steel wool, cheesecloth,7 coats of minwax antique oil and FINALLY one coat(2days) of johnson's paste wax.

(the pix don't do it justice)

i have cleaned a sporter Brazilian model 1908 (98 mauser) and i have put on my first scout scope. i.ve got a b square mount, butit just doesn't fit the rear sight. i have another 98 mauser rear scope mount in my junk drawer(probably some chinese model?) that fits. i'll probably do a flange nut on the rear of the rear sight, but i'll shoot her in to see. the scout scope is a vortex 2-7x .

now on to next rifle project(s), 93 mauser in richard's Apache gold wolverine stock and i think a sporter 91 mauser or another krag stock.

Nice work. I especially like the Krag stock as shown in the first couple of photos. A few years ago I had the Krag bug and reworked a couple dozen of them. That is exactly how I wanted them to turn out, sort of an ersatz carbine. I really like the no-gunsmithing rear peep sights.
Most of mine, but not all of them, wear those sights. I can't imagine why Lyman and Redfield quit making them, as they must have been good sellers at one time, and even now would be constant sellers at a reduced volume. I saw a Redfield in the box with original instructions on e-bay the other day for $400. Back when I was doing it I was getting them for $80-$100 each. Not NIB, used, but in good condition.

i think it was 7 or 8 years ago, that i bought a no drill redfield 102k aperture sight for around(i think) $50-60 on ebay. the redfield had its screws but the box and instructions are nowhere to be found. i think that the old style peeps are no more. williams, lyman, marble and i can't think of the name are about the only one that does new peeps. the krag peep sight are all gone, only to be put on ebay and others.

i have old aperture sights on my 98 and 91 mauser's and rem m14.

I believe that Williams still makes a receiver peep sight for the Krag, but it mounts on the right side of the receiver and requires two drilled and tapped screw holes. The no-gunsmithing sights are long gone.

Just curious. Without having the front band on the forend, do you have an extra screw to hold the action to the stock? Looks very nice and nice work!
    Thanks.
