Mauser repair long distance for a cousin !!!!

Cousin lives about 200 miles from me and emails me with a question about his 7x57 Mauser. Tells me when he pushes the bolt forward all the shells pop out? Told him sounds like the wrong follower. any other suggestions I might give him?

    .

It sounds like someone took a grinder to the feed contours machined into the bottom of the action, just above the magazine, in an effort to "improve" the cycling.

If that's the case, since the issue is with the receiver, there's no "fixing it". (w/o a new/different receiver - usually a non-starter)

If this thing has an after market stock the Floor Plate/Mag Well might be a little too far away from the bottom of the feed rails.

This will cause the top round in the mag to be sitting at the wrong angle, and when the bolt pushes it forward the top round just pops out before the Extractor can grab it. All the other rounds follow suit and fly out too.

There should be about 1/16'" between the top of teh mag well and the bottom of the receiver. IF there is more then that could be his problem.

    Hope this helps.
