Lee 456 - 220 RN for Ruger Old Army or Colt

Lee 456 - 220 RN for Ruger Old Army or Colt

Going through old and extra molds to get rid of to buy primers, I found two LEE molds I did not remember I had. One is a two cavity made for the ROA revolver. ).456 diameter.
The second, unused, is a single cavity hollow point of the same design. Who knew? I did not know about the LEE hollow point in this design. I have had LEE hollow points in 45-70 and others and muzzle-loader bullets with hollow bases.

Cast of Pb I am not sure a hollow point would make much difference in cap-n-ball revolver. Would it?

For my ROA, I stopped loading conicals in favor of the plain round ball. RB's shoot to the sights better and does everything I need.

The HP version is effective in the ROA when cast soft, not harder than 1 to 40 tin-lead and driven with all the Goex 3Fg the chambers will hold. In the 1980s killed several deer with it, equal to full-charge .45 ACP and perfectly acceptable at archery tree stand range not to exceed 20 yards.

I like your comparison to the 45 ACP. That makes sense.
