    35rem, bullet and load

I am going to try and find a mold for .358 dia. bullets to shoot in a 35rem tube magazine.
Either a flat point or a round nose.
What do you recommend or use. do you load and what about gas checks?
    Thanks Dave

One thing... If that is a regular "twisted tube" Remington.. no amount of point is ever a problem, because the nose cannot sit against the primer of the one in front anyway.
I bring this up, because the 150 condom, Remington PSP, really is one of the best in my 357 Herrett, and the 35 Remingtons around here.
But, having heard really good things about the RCBS 200 FPGC, I will be trying that .. As You Should.
Pistol Bullets don't feed too good in my personal 35Rem, maybe because it is a bolt action.
    Good Luck

thanks should have listed the rifle.
Its a Marlin 336, tube magazine?
If I keep velocities under 1800 feet/ sec. I should not need a gas check?
    Thanks

This is the gold standard bullet for the 35 Remington. I doubt you can get anywhere near 1,800 fps without a gas check. Get the gas check bullet and use them if nothing else but for insurance for your accuracy. 1,800 fps may be about the top velocity you can expect with a gas check and the proper powder, which Larry has made an excellent suggestion. One thing of importance....is it an older Marlin with Ballard rifling? or is it a later Marlin with Microgroove rifling?
    Good Luck,
    Rick

IDK about that high!! I can't do it...
Brewer 12345, is sending me some Accurate 36-180L, plain base 180's to try, and I do Not anticipate going over about 1400 fps.. seems like a good place for me to be with such a boolit, providing it Feeds, which I really think it will..

Edit; Looking over the Accurate offerings, I am going to try to source a 140 to 160 grain Boolit. Plain Based. That will do double duty as a 35 Rem. "Fun Load", as well as a load for my 357 Mag(s), loaded in 38 Spl Brass.... Wish me luck!!!!

This is a sweet combo for the 35 Rem Marlins. I have a '52 with Ballard rifling and my son's is a micro groove. Best groups ave been at or just under the factory load level of 1900-2000fps. If a micro groove you will need a large enough diameter to tightly fill the grooves and a GC at 1800. A bit harder alloy or HT/water dropped helps too. Never tried a flatbase or unchecked boolit in the Ballard rifled 336.

I really really like Lee's copy of that RCBS flat point 205 grain boolit. And they make it in the 6-cavity. That's what I've been running for several flavors of 35 Remington: Remington, Savage, and Marlin. Yep -- I've got a Savage 99 that was converted to 35 Rem.

The RCBS 35-200-FN over 31.0 grains of Alliant RX7 makes 1,932 FPS average from my Marlin. 5 shot groups average right around an inch at 50 yards with an elbows rest and my tired old eyes.

Although I haven't looked, I'm sure Tom at Accuratemolds.com has the RCBS 35-200 cataloged. I think you would want the diameter such that you could size to .360", at least I have to for my 35 Remington Marlins. Better to be a bit big than even a little too small. If you order from Tom you can usually have your mold, a most excellent product, inside of a couple of weeks. I don't expect there is a shortage at Tom's place.
    Good Luck,
    Rick

I like Lee’s 35-200 FP GC and 12 grains unique. I believe about 1500 FPS out of my waffle top Marlin 336. Very nice combination and very accurate. Easy on shoulder as well.

Those average 162Gr with the Penta & about 170gr without any HP. I can't hunt deer with a rifle here

I use the Ranch Dog bullet that was designed for the Marlin, the noe 359-190-rf, about 188gr, wcww, 35gr Benchmark and Fed LR primer. This bullet and load works well in my Marlin and a Model 14 Remington.

Thanks, the ranch dog bullets, are they tumble lubed or powder coated.
what powder and size groups are you getting. Does your Marlin have micro grove rifling?

The Ranch Dog bullets are designed for tumble lubing, but I just lube it in a Lyman at .359" and cast from air-cooled wheel weights. Load with 35-36 gr IMR 3031 and a standard rifle primer. My Marlin was made in the early 80's and has the micro-grooves. These targets are fairly typical of the accuracy I get with this load.
