Bond arms roughneck, 45 acp

Yesterday I received my bond arms roughneck in 45 acp. While as a last ditch, get off me weapon my full house loads would be fine. Pleasurable to shoot they are not.
I’ve run some .454 round balls through a .452 sizer and lubed with LLA. Clays is the fastest powder I have on hand.

Not sure where to start. 3 gr?

Also, if you were going to kill a snake with this gun at 10’ I am probably going to need a lot of cartridges. I am going to play with a card wad over the powder, enough 7-1/2 shot to get to the bottom of the round ball.

I’ll probably end up with a 410 barrel at some point but wanted to play around a bit first.

The Speer .45 ACP shot cartridges work fine at 5-8 ft.

Don't waste the money on a .410 barrel. BIG disappointment.

The simple solution is to get the .45LC/.410 barrel.

I've found that with mine, 1 or 2 shots is a no big deal, but after that, you might want to wear a glove.

Look around the handgun shot load section for ideas.

Personally, I see no need for any shot size larger than 9 in a .45 ACP shotshell, and 11 or 12 would be better. There isn't a lot of volume in the case for shot, and killing or at least stopping Mr. No-Shoulders is a pattern density operation.

I found that the little wood grips don't do anything to moderate the recoil. But I switched to Bond's rubber grips and now I could fire off a whole box of 45 Colts if I want to. Before switching grips I couldn't fire more than 5 or 6 rounds through mine.
