    Found a deal today!!!!

A client bought his wife this rifle and took her out to look for coyotes - she fell and this happened. Apparently, hubby thinks this gun is now trash - gave him $100 (approximately$100 more than he thought it was worth). Now to figure out what stock will go with this!
    Any Savage Axis owners/experts?
I took apart my son's Axis and see the stock is of different configuration.
    It's a 30-06, serial number J5***66.

Brownell's has about every after market stock there is.

Probably even a $30 direct replacement for it too.

Boyds for me is hot and cold. I have a couple that were great. The last one was for an Axis the magazine release is pretty cheap made from plastic. you get a warning not to over tighten the release or it will break, Guess what you do not have to even get it any where close to tight before it snapped.
With that I think they were re-designing the release.

    Not that I know.
There are long actions and short actions.
the stock maker will know what the diffrence are if any in the variations of the model.
You will need the size of the Barrel and it tapper . the measurement between the action screws.

I took a Savage varminter out of it's plastic stock and put it into a Boyd's stock. Turned it from a mediocre shooter into a very good shooter. Not the best but very good.
The stock fit my rifle very well. It didn't require any fitting to work.
My rifle was/is not an Axis though.

That looks like the Axis XP model to me. No Accutrigger, front mag release, top rear mounted safety. Boyds has nice stocks, but a factory replacement would be cheaper. They kind of flex a lot, but I am very happy with how my 223 Axis XP shoots.

The Axis is a bit weird. The action length really is not different between cartridges. But...the bottom plate and bolt spacing are different. Boyd's has the measurements between screws for the "long action" and "short action".

I also bought a Boyd's for mine and would do it again. Mine is bedded and pillared. Boyd's kinda recommends pillars, which makes their plastic magazine lip work ok.

The real problem with the Axis and heavier recoil cartridges is the recoil lug. Don't know who came up with a separate, slip in, recoil lug, but, IMHO it is a dumb idea and is probably the limiting factor in Axis accuracy.

Wood or composite stock?. Just for grins and giggles you just might want to epoxy it back together. That is if the break is sharp with no missing pieces. Some brass threaded might work if you cut a couple channels on the inside of the stock and epoxy in place as well as epoxy the break. I was trying to figure out how to clamp an additional piece of wood onto the buttstock of one of the Remington 22 target rifles and used 2-3' pieces of all thread with two pieces of 2"x4" with two holes for the all thread. Glued everything together and 2 short dowels to keep the additional wood in place. one 2"x4" was used on the buttstock and the other on the forend with a couple heavy rags between the stock wood. Then just tightened up the 3/8" nuts with lock washers and let sit for 24 hours. Took off the home made clamping gizmo and the additional wood never shifted. Just a very thin glue line. Frank

Have an Axis in .270 and .223 old models. Both great shooters. The Boyds stocks are very nice, may improve accuracy. But they have a much more robust grip area. If you have smallish hands and shorter fingers you will not like the grip fit. I found the Savage flimsy stock much more comfortable. The flimsy can be fixed with a coupk!e bucks worth of Rockite. The not so great trigger can be fixed for a buck, or for free if you have an assortment of screws and small springs. Take a look at the SavageShooters forum, look at Axis, search for the $1 trigger job and how to stiffen the Savage stock. But if your wife likes the stock that broke, lots of info out there on how to repair it. Good spring project.

I vote to repair the stock and give it a camo paint job. Even a Bubba repair can be hidden with a Bubba paint job. You’re not out much of anything but time spent and you’ll find out if it’s still a shooter or not.

I'm with you Slim. I've fixed stocks that bad, and had great success. JB Weld exists, and with it all things are possible. Of course I'd use clear epoxy for a wooden stock. jd
It seems that people who do almost nothing, often complain loudly when it's time to do it.

Believe it or not, there are plastics that JB Weld won't stick to.
That said; I'd try it and if it works, paint it.

My 2 cents? Find a decent (not fancy) wood stock and slap the parts in. Just a basic wood stock. I don't think you would regret it.

    God Bless.

I’m sure the stock would be covered by warranty. I’d give the manufacturer a call.
