In BPCR we use paper patch bullets patched to bore diameter. I was under the impression that for smokeless powder they were patched to groove.

Yellowhoust: My BPCR bullets are DDEPP : DualDiameterEllipticalPaperPatched.
They have a major diameter/baseband that patches to FF case I.D./groove dia
and the body diameter that patches to bore. 9+1 COWW/Lino.
They don't have to bump up.
A growing number of people are using DDEPP BPCR bullets to good effect in most BPCR calibers.

My 358 Win 250 gr PP bullets: same deal -body patches to groove at 0.360"
    and nose to bore

Beltfed, I took yesterday afternoon off to shoot various loadings in the 35 Whelen, including the nine PP'ed 358318's I recently came across in my stash. These were propelled with 49 and 50 grains of H322 and CCI 200 Primers with two wraps of tracing paper. They were shotgun patterns at best. Conversely, the same boolits greased with 2500+ and BLL chugging along at about 950 fps using 5 grains of Bullseye were printing pretty groups at 65 yards. Both the PP and the grease lubed boolits where sized t .360".
If you have some advice to a struggling paper patch neophite I'm open to learn.

I am in process of building another 1-14 twist SS bbl 35 W rifle at present on a 700 action. It is intended as a 200g RCBS PC bullet shooter. Just bought a new SAECO copy of the now discontinued RCBS 200g flat point plane base silhouette bullet in a double cavity iron mould. More than what I wanted to spend, but most things today are just that.
