Light at the end of the tunnel?

Not Sure if this is the right place to post this of not...
Stopped at the local GS today.
I counted over forty different types of Powder from 1 to 8# jugs. Over 200# easy
    Bullets in .223/5.56, 9mm, .30, .401, and .45 in several different sizes.
    And Small rifle primers.

Don't think it was a mirage, sure felt real walking to the truck.

Made sure to let them know I knew it was because they stayed on top of the situation and got orders in early, and how much we appreciate
the effort they put in to keep stock on the shelf. They have had at "some" stock for reloading on hand for the last 3 months.

They are getting loaded ammo in as well, but lets just say the prices make you glad you can build them yourself

Still have limits on purchasing but haven't seen the big runs like last fall...

There is a large Sporting goods store across town, they usually are cheaper than the local GS but they can't seem to get anything in, I have not seen primers or powder there in months so these guys must have been on top of their game, even had several cases of .22 lr earlier this week.
I for one would rather give a little more to the little guys then give it to the big box. Only stop because a road detour takes me right by their driveway.

    Maybe there is a light....

Unfortunately for me I live in a small town and the only gun store in town does not stock reloading components. And our local wally world stopped selling pistol ammo and last time I was there only two boxes of premium shotgun shells and even the cheap shotgun shells that used to be all over the place were way short than what you used to see. Rifle ammo was also way down from what they used to carry. Frank

I hope your right but the industry insiders are say we are at least a year away from any real improvement and more realistic it won't happen until after the mid-terms useless the left holds the House and Senate then it will get a lot worse.

The big online sellers are still completely out. I figure Winchester, Federal, CCI and others are putting it all into ammunition instead of components. More profitable for them and helps a larger segment of shooters as well. Nice that you were able to find some. I could use 8 pounds of .223 powder. Have everything else.

Common misconception. The light one sees is the end of the tunnel, not a light near that.

Hopefully it isn't like the meat processing plants.

Thinking that this "panic buying" time is fading is a pipe dream. We will be lucky if we start seeing reloading components on selves this time next year.

Our lgs got some small rifle primers in twice in the last month. Limit 200. They are selling them for five cents a piece. Was able to get 400 last Saturday because a friend was with me. They have no smokeless powder though.

Shortages are often more about perception and panic than actual shortages. A year ago, toilet paper was a rare commodity. It wasn't as if we suddenly stopped making toilet paper. A system that had manufactured more than enough of that product for decades didn't change overnight. It was nothing more than an increased demand caused by one of the most bizarre panics in history.

Eventually the market will get saturated and people will feel like there's no need to immediately buy every box of ammo, every primer or every jug of powder they see. This can take a while and political events can cause a whole new wave of panic in the meantime. Eventually the demand will decrease and the supply will catch up.

For those of us that lived through the gas shortages on the 1970's (there were two), hindsight is a bit of an advantage.
There was never any real shortage, only panic that gave the appearance of a shortage and the human behavior that accompanies those perceptions.

    We'll get through this.

My observations usually indicate that "light at the end of the tunnel"...............is usually a TRAIN!

I picked up two lbs of longshot last week at $29.99 per bottle. They had a few others but not too much to choose from.

P&P has the correct take on this IMO.

It sucks to be one of those who either did not prepare or are new to reloading and caught short. They are more likely to feed the panic and buy whatever they find at higher prices.

Some of those with plenty of stuff might cut down a bit on shooting. I am doing that, even though I have enough to outlast the panic.
