    6mm-30-30 AI

Is this worth the effort and where to find the dies needed? Thanks

In what gun? In a lever or bolt gun- no. It would be cool In a single shot. 6mm Creedmoor or good old .243 would be easier.

    Food for thought...

The .30 Rem is basically the .30-30 but rimless. The 6.8mm SPC is based on the .30 Rem case. You might be interested in the 6mm Hagar which is the 6.8mm SPC necked down to 6mm. Brass, dies & reamers are readily available. The 6.8mm SPC brass is available in both large & small primer pocket & typically is stronger & of higher quality than .30-30 or .30 Rem cases.

EABCO makes a 6mm Bench Rest Magnum in their proprietary single shot falling block, the 97D. Call to see if they have a set of dies in stock or will chamber your single shot barrel. It is formed from 30-30 brass.

Check out CH4D as well. Although I believe they are two years behind in work currently.

30/30 cases are NOT very strong and will NOT take much pressure, premature loose primer pockets, FL sizing constantly. There are better mouse traps even though the cartridge is very efficient....cases can not take the pressure.

Consider a 6/250 AI, plenty of room left over in the magazine for long vld bullets, and it is nipping on the heels of a hot rod 243 AI. I have shot barrels out of both the 6/250 AI and 243 AI...no down side for either.

For a contender carbine, consider a 6/204 or a 25/204 and get ready for the shock of your life in terms of speed and accuracy, so is the 22/204.

I worked with a 97D in 6mm BR Magnum, brass is weak, I will leave it at that.

6mm Creedmoor or .243 while easier would make him one of the herd wouldn't they?

He is looking for something for use in a contender. Read my post above again for great use in a Contender.

Funny you should mention the 22/204 as I plan on running a 223AI reamer in deep and using 204 Ruger brass to make a kind of 223 super ackley improved or a 22/204 AI, whichever designation you prefer. Think it will come close to a 22 BR. Will see how it works out.

Isn't a 22/204 about the same as the old 222 Rem Magnum?

    NO.

    22/204 shooting 40g is 4200
    " shooting 55g is 3700

    Amazing accuracy

I use slightly modified Forster 204 benchrest seater, opened up a little, Redding Bushing FL and Neck sizers. No down side to this project, none.

    22/204 is like a magnum 222 Magnum.

In regards to the 30-30 case being "NOT very strong" i highly disagree. One has only to spend time around and read about the .219 Donaldson Wasp. It was loaded to very high pressure.

In a contender 6.5 JDJ should be a better choice
