    Rifle Help

Pap likes pumps. I'm looking for him a short stroke, pistol length rifle that works real easy. He's got diminished hand strength and cant really work my 14 so I guess the 14 1/2 wouldn't be any easier. He sometimes short strokes the 760. He likes the fieldmaster, but I'd like something centerfire for him. I'm looking at something like a Marlin 27-S since the Lightning repros seem to have disappeared and the Timberwolves all seem to be collector's items. Any ideas about models I've not considered would be appreciated.

While I'm at it is there a 7.62x39 bolt action that's easy to convert to using stripper clips?

How about the Ruger All American Compact in 7.62x39. Comes with a 5 rd mag but can get ten rounders as well. Bolts are CNC machined and seem to glide through all the gyrations one does when shooting. Short bolt as well. Haven't shot mine yet due to all the ranges being closed due to covid. Frank

a buddy of mine used to have a 38-40 in a old colt lightening pump rifle. i have a rem m14 that i have to hide when my brother's girlfriend shows up at my place. she wants to "steal" it and take it out hunting. i had a rem m760 in 308 but i sold it. i know a little about about marlin 27-s, but you can use 1" x 1" scratch pad to fill up my knowledge.

i know 7.62x39 is one of the cartridges that needs re-barreled for my m91 in 6.5 carcano.

    .

    Please check your PM's - I found a CF pumpgun in .45 Colt F/S

Besides that one, The Kittery Trading Post (they also sell online) lists two restored Remington 25's in .25-20

Browning did make a BPR years ago, but I think they were all in long action ('06 or belted magnum) cartridges. I don't know if they are any easier than a Model 760 to operate or not, if you can even find one.

Have you looked at the options on gunbroker? It seems like I saw an unfamiliar brand of pump action rifle there recently. Sorry I don't recall if it was rim or center fire.

Remington model 25's are still amazingly affordable for a quality built pump that uses pistol length cartridges

I'm leaning towards a Remington model 25 or a Marlin model 27-S. I can find 25-20's but I'd like to find a 32-20 since I'm already set up to load it. Finding anything, like the dies and mould I'd need for a 25-20, is hard.

Of what is currently made, the Pedersoli copy of the Colt Lightning is probably the best bet if you wanted a new made rifle.

I think there was a pump rifle called "Timberwolf" , chambered in pistol cartridges .357 and .44 if I remember right .

The timberwolves jumped in price there for a while, but I haven't checked them out lately.
