Mrs Thumbcocker and I got the Johnson &Johnson vaccination today. The shots were given by Illinois National Guard troops working with our county health department. We registered online yesterday and were sent tickets to our phones.
The vaccination was done in the gym of a local church camp. We arrived early, had our tickets scanned, were asked some preliminary questions. We then went to a table where we were given our cards and our shots. The medic that gave our shot was completely professional and very polite. She explained everything and did a great job wit the shot. We ten went and sat on some folding chairs for 15 minutes in case we had a reaction. There were tv monitors set up that displayed the time. We had a note on our cards saying what time we could leave.
There was a senior nco walking around the waiting area visiting with people and making sure everyone was doing ok. I was glad to see him spend several minutes talking to a man wearing a Vietnam veteran hat.
When our time was up our tickets were scanned again and we left. Whenever a chair was vacated a soldier wiped it down with disinfectant.
In short the whole process was quick, efficient, and well organized. The troops were courteous and professional and had their stuff together. The senior nco said they liked what they were doing.
So I ended up with my vaccination, a SpongeBob band aid, and appreciation of what Americans can do when they set their mind to it. Also I couldn't help but notice how well bdu trousers fit.
