    cutting '06?

i want to get a micro saw just for cutting the necks on the 30-06. i'm tired of cutting on the case trimmer and the hack saw. would this be good?

I bought one of those from HF and it works rather well. I use mine for cutting 556/223 cases for 300 blackout. I see no reason they would not work just as well for 30-06.

I've turned a few 06 into 8x57 and 7x57 using said saw, works well. Just make sure you have extra belts and a spare blade if you are doing larger volumes of brass. Also you can get 3d printed add ons to make it easier.

It won't totally replace a case trimmer, but if you are removing more than ¼", it will be faster. You will need to fix some way to hold the tapered cases square or you will spend a lot of time at the trimmer getting case mouths back to square.

The first time I used mine, the little "safety catch" that prevents the saw from dropping broke.

i just have to come up with jig to do it one handed. i have a whole bunch of '06 cases that are just sitting there. i gave up on the '06 quite a while ago. the cases i need are the 7x57, 8x57 and the 7.65x53 cases. i've done them 2 or 3 times, but cutting the necks was a chore(esp one handed!!!!!).

My safety catch is to keep you from pushing down till you push it , acts like a safety on a power tool , though I subscribe to the old if it hurts dont do it , It is meant to take enough off so trimming is a minimal , works good for how we use it , make a tool or a stop or at least a mark to set to then cut , I cut trim and then chamfer and deburr before sizing .

I set case in and semi tighten clamp then place a finger to hold case down and then go slow , let the tool eat its way in without forcing , with the cut off wheel I am using I do not need to turn case over to finish.

How much are you cutting off necks and why ?

i cut off the '06 necks right above the shoulder for the 7 and 8mm mauser. i haven't done it yet, but the 7.65 argie i trim after i use (06 brass) the 7.65mm fl die. i'm guessing about 2/3 of neck is waste. also i case trim and chamfer/deburr everything.

Brake tubing cutter used here. Both 8MM and 300 BLKT
You can miss fast & you can miss a lot, but only hits count.

Convert 30-06 to .308 win (7.56x51)Trim die, cordless sawsall with metal cutting blade, cutoffs collected with a brass catcher (if you feel the need), finish in trimmer (your choice, powered). Worked great for 500 to a 1000 cases all mil-surp.

I have used it for 308 to 45acp shot shell brass, and 7.62 X 38R and 32/20 to .310 Cadet.

I changed out the metal saw blade for abrasive cut off wheels, they last slot longer.

The 3D plastic jigs you can buy made specially for this tool really help in getting square, repeatable cuts.

A small vacuum nozzle going next to the blade really helps keep the work area cleaner when doing volume cuts.
