The boxes of old were art of the common man. Thanks for sharing the pics. A shame today the current Wall Street holding companies are more focused on their "Name Branding" than they are on the customer and what appeals to the customer.

I think you are in luck, I saw they are using a similar box again. Might be hard to find now...someone might have bought some recently.

I just googled this and can't find what I am sure I saw in Scheels, a year ago maybe. Can anyone help?

I like the comment "art for the common man", exactly right. Had some fairly thin salvage plywood in the shop some years ago, made some hoppers for wads and hulls, used old shot shell box fronts for accents.

Thanks for posting. I grabbed them and will print some on my color laser printer for my "newer" boxes.......just for "goode olde tymes" sake.

I print old liqueur labels for bottles and distress/age them to look 150+ years old and use chlorine-free paper like the old stuff was! New paper glows in UV light....that is how you can detect fakes easily on many labels and printed matter.

In my mind somewhere around the early to mid 1970's was the end of the interesting packaging. Seems like every company started to go to a plainer less detailed graphic style. You could look at the box and not know what purpose the contents were used for. I always liked the old Weatherby animal boxes.

    Wow.
Seems like several years ago, Winchester re-popped their old wooden shotgun shell case boxes. But they were kind of pricy.

And I've long felt that quality engraving on a gun was fine art that a man could own without being thought a pansy.

That, and well made duck decoys.

I still have quite few of the old, beautifully artistic shotshell and ammo boxes stashed away.......an inheritance from a dear old friend from years ago. I wisely did NOT toss them out as we'll never see their likes again.

I like the idea of the dispenser......a good way to "repurpose" the artwork for the future. Good job!

Lotsa things just ain't the same....or as good. Lots are as good and are better but there's a bunch of things from yesteryear I'd rather have than what we're force fed today.

I suppose that if Doritos and Mountain Dew can do throwback packaging, so can ammunition companies! They have the power to do so, but then again, people will purchase their ammunition no matter what it looks like.

I have that same Monark box in 16 ga. Also have a very old Winchester box of 16's, with about 20 rounds of 2 9/16. I also have about a half dozen Winchester and Remington boxes from the 50's and 60's from my late father-in-law. Those are as new and full.

Love these old boxes! I collect *mostly* 22 boxes all pre-1962 (child warning on boxes…) but am having a time after being away for a while getting pictures to attach.

I don’t know why I am attracted to these colorful boxes, I can only hope a youngster, somewhere, would appreciate the history….

I still have the old Winchester yellow box from the first box of .357 Magnum ammo I ever bought in 1974. With all styrofoam insert.

Older ammo is still out there... but be careful, it can be addictive & expensive...
