    Jackets material

    Hi

What would be the reason for traditional projectile manufacturers to use brass alloy with more copper (gilding metal 95/5)than used in the manufacture of cases (70 copper/30 zinc)?
Ease of conformation, wear of the dies, longer service life of the barrel ... does anyone risk a guess?

    Curious about...

    Thanks

    Liseo

I made some 1.750 inch .375 jackets out of 70-30, It's allot harder then 95-5 and pure Copper, Takes more annealing as well. was a bit more work to keep the barrel clean as well .
As BT if he ever used the ones i sent him . He might have a differing view

I found a company in my country that manages to make the jackets, but I am having trouble finding a supplier of 95-5 brass coils.
I would really prefer to use the material that all bullet makers use. There must be a good reason for that

I have Corbins jacket maker with a hydraulic hydropress and also would like to find a source . I have always used Corbins guilding metal in 1.4" flat strips at 5lbs at a time , as I just play around a few times a year with it mostly during the winter months . They cost seems around $79 plus the shipping for 5lb flat strips .. I would also be interested if anyone finds any other reliable sources , possibly more competitive priced ...I doubt I need a 50lb coil but would like to get 10-20 lb at a time when I order .
If anyone finds a source -let use all know ?

There are plenty of suppliers who make 95-5 in strip . Usually in 50 lb coils.... But they will expect you to buy a ton...

I tried to contact companies that have in their catalog 95/5 brass . But when I get in touch, they say they only have 70/30.

M.A.D. do you mind informing which company supplies this material?

**about the minimum order, maybe if we have more people interested...

Hi, Where are you located? City/Country....
Your biggest issue will be the minimum order required, It will be a minimum 1000 kg.... And due to Covid, There's a whole lot of issues with freight. It may even pay off to wait a while for things to get back to normal with sea freight as opposed to AIR..
But we can at least get the ball rolling...
