    Older cast bullets

I just bought a .45/90 Rifle and found that some of the bullets that I cast 2 - 3 years ago had a gray coating. I don't know if it is oxidation or just crud. I felt that at the very least it would cause more residue in my barrel between shots and cleaned up the ogives with steel wool. It was a lot of dirty nasty work and I wonder if it was worth it. Anybody know what it was and if I did the right thing .

Just the oxide from being bare lead exposed to the air , I found in old cans of cast that a little ways down bullets were still shiny , It all depends how bad the oxidation is , a little no big deal if it is real dark I would just recast and coat it with something to block oxidation .

Just wipe the bullets with pure mineral spirits ... oxide gone

I wouldn't be concerned as the long as the oxide is grey. Just shoot them. If it is white and crusty remelt. labop

I never worried about it once in a while I would just soak em in charcoal lighter and let em dry lube and shoot.
