Copper Capped Cast Boolits

I posted a similar thread to this on the paper patched section and then got around to making these capped boolits in a GG mold rather than swaging them.

I think they are pretty neat!
The caps are jackets for swaging 45cal pistol bullets.

Can anyone here think of an advantage these may have over a regular cast RN boolit?
Maybe straighter penetration or perhaps different expansion than a standard cast projectile?

Not gonna help you with anything on that end of the bullet. If where on the base like a half jacket it would do alot of good.

That MIGHT keep the nose from slumping during firing. Only thing I can think of.

I see no purpose. The bullet design it's self is not a good one for hunting.

Early Swiss 7.5mm cartridges were made like that, as well as some long-ago revolver projectiles. It assisted penetration.

Somebody early on (Winchester?) made .357 Magnum ammunition with a pointed, copper-capped lead boolit. It was for use by the Highway Patrol for penetrating the bodies and engines of the automobiles that the Depression-era “motorized bandits” were employing in their bank robberies and other depredations.

Yours ought to be able to cruise clear through a getaway Prius.

At first, I wanted to replicate the Westley Richards LT capped design.
They were jacketed and the nose was hollow.
My supposition is that in impact, the copper nose would flatten out and form something like an umbrella of copper out in front of the body of the projectile.
From what I’ve read, they didn’t perform as well as hoped although the WR Explora did well with the design. No doubt the higher velocities of the 425 and 318 nitro expresses made them behave differently than in the slower and larger Explora and Fauneta paradox style guns.
These two pictured are filled with lead but I did also swage some caps onto shorter boolits to make the hollow nose version. Wil load some up and see if they fly straight and make round holes.

One possible benefit of boolits like these is that one could get something close to jacketed performance in a muzzle loader without using sabots and a smaller projectile.
They will still obturate and the cap would be more bore riding.
