I seem to remember posting pictures here directly from my computer, Castboolits "hosted" them, so I could delete them from my own computer but they remained here for viewing. I have been using a host, Imgur, to add pictures but now if I clean out my Imgur album the pictures diasappear here also, is that normal?

YES, the IMGUR pictures here are linked to the pictures on the IMGUR site.
once they are removed from IMGUR the only way to get them back onto CB is to upload the picture and post it again in CB
when another photo hosting site went anal and raised prices a lot of valuable pictures disappeared.
You can't link to something that doesn't exist.
You can still upload images to the server here.

It's my understanding that to upload pictures to CB directly from your computer the need to be 200kb or less
one reason for not being able to upload more pictures directly is you've exceeded your storage limit for the donation amount to the forum.

With a simple registration and Learning Curve, here is a site that hosts photos, large and small, without restriction on number of pictures or pixels: https://postimages.org/
from which - after an upload - there is a DIRECT LINK (important to note) that may be copied, and that direct link added (without follow-on advertising) to a post here between "["img"]" and "["/img"]" tags (eliminating the quotation marks). Works every time without resizing...but DO NOT delete those hosted site pictures there once uploaded and directly linked here or the thread picture you posted will also disappear here.
If it was easy, anybody could do it.
Land Owner thanks for that. I have an Imgur account that I use like that for SOME pictures, just didn't want to fill it up with a bunch of junk for here, maybe open another.

I've got 1,200 pictures on Imgur, use to have a lot more when I posted a lot in the PIT.
I've only posted a hand full of pictures on CB directly from my computer and that many years ago.
Its all about the $ folks. That's why you can't load them here anymore. Same thing with photobucket. They used to be free then they went went to pay to play

Waksupi it worked, I chose insert image, from my computer, clicked on the picture in my photos on my computer, and it posted. What happened is I used up my allowed # of photos with paid subscription, when you get there you have to use a hosting site. It would be nice to know that ALL my private pictures are not available to everyone now?
