    Wolf Match Extra

I bought two bricks of Wolf Match Extra. Since it's now made by Eley. Is it the same as one of Eley's types? Does anyone know? Part of the lot number is the same as some Eley Target I have.

Where did you hear it was being made by Eley?

Notes: Wolf Match Extra 22LR is now produced at the world renowned Eley ammunition plant in England. Please note that if you have shot this in the past you may have different results now vs the previous ammo from the German SK Lapua plant, although we expect Eley to be just as exceptional

I was VERY happy with the SK/Lapua made stuff!

The old Wolf usually got good reviews. The new Wolf from England no so much from many on www.rimfirecentral.com . I used some of the new stuff in an excellent CZ and had unsatisfactory results also. Tried it in a Lithgow LA 101 and had excellent results. Bought more where previously was disappointed and thought I had wasted $. Another person on rimfirecentral.com reposts similar results. Results apparently are very gun sensitive. The LA 101 is a treat.

My solution to the Wolf change was to simply switch over to SK.

Did just the manufacturer change or is the ammo different. Same shape bullet with the same lube and alloy or is it just an existing Eley product in a new package? Top guns can be picky about not just brands of ammo but lots.

I have a small amount of the old. It has not shot worth beans in my Ballard match rifle nor the CPA. I set it aside. Others I talked to about it had the same experience. There was one exception. There was a case lot number that was doing very well for a number of competitors. Two shooting friends tracked that lot down and each bought a case. They both had outstanding results with that exact lot and nothing else Wolf Match Extra.

There are indeed lot to lot differences in ammo as well as truth in the notion that very good ammo will be (at least) very good in correctly built and set-up match rifles.

The older Wolf ammo shot with a strange smelling powder. I never did like the smell tho it would not mater a whit if it shot lights-out. I wonder if the new ELEY Wolf product will retain the old powder?

I have noticed a very strange smelling powder in one of my ammo's. I think it's Aguila match although it could be Geco match. Then again, it could have been someone else using Wolf.

Aguila uses Eley priming which does indeed have a different smell. It works fine though.
