    The Great Aloha Shooting Match

Ok, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, shooters of all ages, creeds, colors, and calibers. Time for a spring shooting match. Let's get this new board kicked off right.

Come one, come all! You don't pay no stinkin' money, but you still takes your chances. This is a fun shoot, and your honesty is accepted as a given. Remember, bribes will be cheerfully accepted, as in the past. All excuses gleefully ignored, ridiculed, guffawed, and snickered at.

We will split this one up in the following three catagories on rifle. Center fire, cast bullets only, benchrest. We'll see what the guys with the small bores can do, and get some of you Schutzen and BPCR shooters into the game a bit more. You can shoot with scope or any sights in the catagories, and will be entered in each. Shoot as many targets as you want, and send your best.

    Sub .30 cal.

    .30-.399 cal.

    .40+ cal.

    100 yards.

    Any target

    Ten shots

And for the pistol shooters, we have a 100 yard scoped match. Also, we will have a ten yard offhand match for "social" pistols. Ten shots, your choice of targets.

    Best group wins each catagory

All entries MUST have the following on them.

Name, address, board handle, email, rifle or pistol, sight equipment, load. As much info as possible.

Overseas entries, contact me at waksupi@aboutmontana.net for scoring information. Overseas shooters will be the only targets accepted via email.

Mail the targets to me on or before May 1. That will be the cut off date for entries. Send them to

Hey... you should have a $1 per target fee... then collect all that money in a pot, and put all the names in a hat, then at the end of the match draw a name, the name you draw gets the money... just think if everyone send in a target and a dollar, it could be a nice little cash amount that way anyone can win the money, not just the best shot... a little more incentive that way, to send in targets!

I think it would be even better to have everyone send five bucks per target. Then I would put them all in a hat. I would draw one out, and if I can guess who's picture is on the fiver, I get to keep them all!

Ken, I thought you might like that one.

    I'm adding one more class.

Lever action rifles, 50 yard bench. Other rules are all the same.

Wills, that is optional, as long as you take along the scoring official, to see no hanky panky goes on. It is the Aloha shoot, as I believe that means both goodbye, and hello. It seemed appropriate under the circumstances.

I went out this morning to work up a load for the 94 Winchester, .44mag. for the postal match. I ended up with 15.5 gr. 2400, behind the Kieth 240 SWC. It was shooting into about an inch and three quarters at fifty yards. I didn't know I could see that well! Fifteen grains would shoot four into under an inch, with a consistant flyer. I may work on that a bit, to see if the crimp is the problem, or what.

I got out yesterday and put a few on paper for the 50 yard lever action classification. Managed one decent taget. Might be good for 5th Honorable Mention or so. I guess with the entry fee what it is I may as well send it in.

I got the first target in this week. Just a reminder, the match ends on May 1, so get 'em shot, and get 'em in. It will take me some time to get things scored, so they can trickle in for a week or two.

One target? Guess that makes me the early front runner!

Here's a reminder. Today is the last official day of the internet match. Get out, and get them shot! I got in some more targets yesterday, so there is some action going on.
I'll be working on getting our club spring shoot set up the next couple weeks, along with regular work, so you will end up with a bit of "fudge" time on your shooting. I will try to have the results posted by May 15.

Well, I got the targets all registered in.

We had some serious shooters working hard at this one. I was hoping to get a big wad of targets in from the Winnemucca group, but no luck. You guys think about that, if we do this again next spring.
I hope I didn't miss anyone's targets that may have been spindled and mutilated by the Post Office, and my apologies for any scoring or information entries mistakes I may have made.
I didn't find the time to work in all the classes myself, but had fun trying. I'd like to thank all the competitiors, and congratulations to all, on some good shooting. I hope the cut and paste comes through in a readable form.

(Note from Waksupi. This group was a real heart breaker, as there were two separate groups, averaging .63". If he would have sent a larger bribe, I would have awarded the whole shooting match to him.

    Here is Joe's explaination.

    "Ric,
Wasn't that the pits! Here is the story. I found these 10 forgotten cartridges, I had loaded in the '70's for my Savage 99, so I decided to unload them in my Marlin for the brass. 4 I had hollow-pointed for hunting and they made the lower group. The other 6 shot higher for some reason but, I was running out of time and this was the best 10 shot group I had fired. There will be no hard feelings if you disqualify the target because it is unusual, to say the least. I know the powder charge, and if I can remember the alloy, I will definately shoot some more of these again. Thanks, Joe (JDL)")

Waksupi, You expected targets from the Winnemucca group? If you meant targets fired at Winnemucca, those were after the polls closed on the Aloha Match. While working up loads for Winnemucca I shot some real Improved Cylinder patterns that I would have been ashamed to show in the company of the entries you received.

    Name

I hate to be picky but my last name is Hayward ( second place Lever action). I just want to say it was great fun working up a load and shooting even if I did lend my gun to a buddy and he came first. Great to see Marlins in the top three and all so close. And that 1.15 " group WOW. It was great fun. Mel

Mel, by golly, your right, your last name IS Hayward. I still have the target and note right next to me. Maybe I was thinking of Moe Howard. Do you look like him at all? That could have thrown me off!
