What type of compression were you using with this load.

As much as it takes so that the bullet makes firm contact with the wad.

I ordered powder from BACO on Monday. Tracking shows it scheduled to arrive tomorrow (Friday).
    Can’t beat that!
I’ve been shooting Bullseye Pistol for the last eight years. 3.5 gr of BE to the pop. I’m starting to get used to the appetite of this big cartridge!

Wait till you get into things like the 45-110 etc, where you'll be lucky to squeeze 70 rounds out of a pound of powder.

Or 58 rounds shot with the .50-90 or .44-90 BN and less if the powder is dense like some Swiss lots.

On the plus side, it’s taking me a lot longer to go through a case of primers!

That's true, and as hard as primers are to find right now, having a couple of cases hanging around isn't a bad thing.

Rifles and casting equipment are an investment and done right can be sold for more than you paid for them. Lead, primers, powder, are gone the second you pull the trigger. If your time counts for much you would buy ammo. How does trucks become part of the deal. Not saying I wouldn't spend a few bucks more for a better powder for other shooting I spend a few bucks more for bench rest primers.

Actually buying better ammo I have not looked but maybe someone here knows a custom reloader who makes and sells top notch custom BPCR ammo?

    Tim,

If you want top notch ammo HP of black powder you have to reload your own.

I picked 10 lbs of Old E 1.5 on Thursday, I have been using Swiss 1.5. I loaded 20 rounds up Thurs evening and went to the range Fri. DAMN, best groups I have ever shot with the 45-90 and the fowling and cleanup was like going from BP to smokeless. I am convinced and will probably never go back.
But then I am one of those guys that is never satisfied, no matter how well something is working.

Don't you think you could make better ammo and me?

My order of OE 1 1/2 finally arrived. As Don McDowell suggested I loaded some up using the same load as I had previously been using with goex cartridge. 200 yard 10 shot group was 4”x5”. I’m very happy with that as a starting point.
As was pointed out previously, there was surprisingly less fowling! I’m going to like this powder!

Is Swiss worth the extra bucks compared to Olde E?
    JKR
I use Swiss 1.5f in 45-70, .577 Snider, and 45-120. The 45-70 gives me about 2 MOA, the .577 runs about 4 MOA and the 45-120 about 3/4 MOA. So to me it is worth it.
