    US Made Lead Thermometer!

I was never quite sure that the PRC made thermometer I'd ordered was being accurate or had repeatable accuracy-there were results that the molds were showing that indicated that the temperature shown was not correct.

When I got a new cooker (grill/smoker) made by a nice company named "Southern Q" I was pleased to discover that installed in the US Made cooker was a US made thermometer manufactured by Tel-Tru and I couldn't help but look them up...

and yes, they manufacture a thermometer suitable for lead pots and it is less than $10 more than the imported piece of junk!

I've got one of their meat thermometers coming too...

And they have a sense of humor!

220* F seems a bit low for lead. EDIT: that was just the one that popped up, other ranges available.

I rely on the readout on my PID. It semms very accurate.
I also have a multi-meter that has a temp probe. It reads in celcius which is fine, My PID does too. It reas about 2* C less than the PID. but thats not enough to worry about.
I can use multi-meter prob in my big out door pot to check temps there.

I got a kick out of the Road Kill thermometer. You can never tell when you might need one of those.......

I paid less from NOE molds for the same made by Tel-Tru. I was hoping that my dual probe grill thermometer would go high enough for lead (with separate leads/probes), but no dice. Doesn't read high enough. Stops at 575*

Been using one from NOE and was pretty happy with it, glad its made by the same company. The glass shattered when I put it too close to stove's heating element. Just ordered replacement from Amazon since the're supposed to be same thing. $27 plus tax and I have free prime shipping.

Without going to the trouble of looking them all up, I would guess that most of the "casting thermometers" from reloading companies are rebadged Tel-Tru units.
