I'll bet you're a fine shot too. I used to do exactly that. I got good quick. Did it for two or three years. At the time I could hit an empty shotgun hull off hand at 25 yards with a 22 pistol.

As per the OP. Guess it pends on your needs and such. I don't shoot 38s much, a thousand will last me a couple years. I'd be worried if it was my main caliber.

To maintain what I shoot I need 100 to 200 twice a week but I don't have to shoot that much I just like to , some of those are 22lr .
My shooting improved when I limited myself to 50 or less a session like Petander mentioned mine was 2 or 3 times a week.

1000 rounds of 38 is enough for now.
I'd save the rest of your resources till things settle down.

The kicker lies in your question, "Would you still be content with that or want for more?" I would say the universal answer here would always be "Want for more!" Any time someone puts a limit on anything we would want, the natural reaction is "More please." It's just human nature.

I wouldn’t be content with 1,000. But that’s why I have more components stockpiled than that.

Depends on my plans. Sometimes I shoot 1k 38 spl in a week, sometimes it last a year.

It all depends on how much you want to shoot and or how often you want to reload that cartridge and what supplies you have available.

Honestly, we are all making these decisions right now ourselves, taking into account our own needs concerning SD, competition, informal target, plinking, hunting, etc., and how many components we have. I don't know your circumstances, but If you arent loading for competition, and for informal practice, I would say using 20% of your primers for common use would be acceptable. After all, for most people who shoot every other weekend, or once a month, 1000 rounds is a lot of ammo, and should last quite a while, and you would still have 80% left in reserve.
I shoot so that I can handload.

I like stocking components but not loaded ammo. I keep in mind the problem my widow would have disposing of a lot of reloaded ammo. Components are much easier to dispose of in that case.

I consider a thousand rounds a nice round number to keep on hand for an unknown future. Our comfort levels are all different from one another and if a thousand is what you like, then by all means do it. Put 'em in a couple of GI ammo cans with a note as to the boolit and powder weight and the date you loaded them. They'll be a nice find for your heirs if you don't need them beforehand and I pray that we don't.

I load one. I am happy. That is all.

    Very true.

1000 rounds might get spent in two active range trips with AK / AR / Pistols. I've sold most of my "brass spreaders"...

On the other hand,my typical (almost daily) winter revolver trip uses 25-50 rounds.

Yes if I could only reload IK 38's it would go well with what I have stashed.

I’m not going to reload 38’s. I wouldn’t use my resources for that. But that’s because I don’t shoot that caliber for anything other than fun. I don’t carry revolvers. If I’m going to use primers, it’s going to be practicing with something I may use.

You retired fellas have it made!!! If I make it to retirement, I will get to shooting more then.
Take a kid to the range, you'll both be glad you did.

I thought that, too. I’m busier in retirement than I was before retiring and unfortunately it’s farther to a range. That was a choice made to live close to my aging parents so no regrets.

I load as needed mostly because reloading is my hobby and I enjoy it but also this ^^. Right now, my wife would have bidding wars on the components I have on hand an could liquidate it pretty quick. Of course my master plan is to have it all shot up before that time happens

38 spl is my go to so I'd have to say not enough and I would want more. Even though I have a reasonable amount of back stock the unknown of how long this shortage is going to last makes myself and others in our circle shoot a bit differently. As in more precision work, more single shots, sprinkling in more .22s. We've even been playing card games and darts. What counts to us is the fact we're still getting out most every week to enjoy the comrardery, sharing stories and enjoy a coffee.

Yes, but only heavy pulp/grove stand style. With that amount of emotion I don't think I could bear drinking, let alone purchasing, thin textureless orange juice.
