Favorite one that I never carry - an Al Mar Falcon with ivory micarta scales. I bought it on eBay to replace one that was stolen when I was 11 - my first grown-up knife my dad brought back from the US for me:

Buck 112 Drop Point with my own crossdraw horizontal sheath.

Pretty much the perfect knife. Perfect size. Heavy and enough and thick enough handle to actually use. Stout blade that is long enough to do field dress whitetails and short enough to fit anywhere. It's good looking. I look at all these thin handled sypdercos and whatnot and just am not impressed. I actually use my knives and learned long about if you don't have enough mass and size in the handle you just can't exert much force. I've spit several the pubic symphysis on several deer with this little knife.

Most importantly it is not that expensive and is very easy to sharpen.

I still carry a small Case 3 blade knife, it's been with me more years than I can remember. Got a shoe box full of knives but I just look at them every now an again.

Mine is the Buck Open season folders. I have both the older 546 black plastic handle and the newer 556 rosewood handle. For me, it is all about the handle. I still have dozens of folding knives scattered about, but those two are the only ones I really like, and use daily. The Buck 110 and 112 are classic folding knives, but the handle just doesn't quite have the feel I like. I learned early on that I need a knife with a sheath. Knives tossed loosely in the pocket is the worst, and I have never had a knife with a pocket clip for more than a few months before they ended up lost. The Buck open season knives come with a fabric sheath, but I bought two of their leather sheaths. they can be used horizontal or vertical, but I very much prefer horizontal.

I use the 546 daily at work, as it has a flipper. It is the easiest one handed opening knife I have ever found, short of spring loaded. The drawback to that flipper is that you have to be careful when putting it back in the sheath, or it could open up accidently on your finger. This one has a liner lock which works fine. I use the 556 everywhere else. It has a thumb hole to open, which works fine one handed, and it also sports a back lock, which I love. The size and shape of both are identical. The size of these is perfect. Not ungodly huge, but you can still actually use it for just about anything. I quit carrying fixed blade knives, as there is no reason to when you have a good folder. The only fixed blades I have is a Cutco fillet knife, and the Buck open season boning knife, which both have sheaths, but I don't carry either on a belt.

It is assisted open, Very nice Damascus blade, came sharp, I polished it lightly. It is holding an edge well.
My only fault is that the pocket clip is on the wrong end of the knife.

I Carry a yellow handled case sodbuster jr....always been a handy little knife for cutting fishing line and peeling apples and such. And because my daddy carried one.

I have one like that that Al Mar gave me when he was giving some training to my SF Unit. I knew Al as a friend and fellow SF soldier and have 3 of his knives. The top two in the photo.

Actually my favorite pocket knife has always been a small Case 3 bladed pocket knife I bought in the Fort Benning PX in April '65 before shipping off over seas. I carried it continuously all over the world up until just a few years ago when I "retired" it. It served me well. Actually though for many years I've also carried Swiss Army "Champion" knives (I have 2) and have found them to be the most useful all around knives.

Funny seeing the TL-29 pliers/knife set, I have the sheath and the knife but lost (or was lost for me) the original pliers somewhere along the way.

My Favorite, that i carried for years, is an original Leatherman Pocket Survival Tool (PST). I hurt the small screwdriver along the way and contacted them about repair/replacement and they said they were no longer in production and i would receive a current model replacement. I told him thanks, and now it lives in semi-retirement on the loading bench.

Metricmonkeywrench, I am an advocate for the original leatherman tools, and have carried one daily for quite a while.

I've sent my tool back for repair several times. Each time I instructed them to just repair it. One time, I think they replaced it, though can't confirm this. A couple times they replaced the Phillips and medium flat screwdriver blades with new style blades, against my instructions. The last time, they repaired it and sent it back as instructed. So I'd say you did well not sending it in.

I have taken to repairing them myself. I have two, one for backup. I don't have any spare parts currently or I'd be glad to offer the one you need. I have in the past, bought a tool off ebay, and replaced the parts I needed. I disassembled the tools knurled fasteners with pliers that fit close. I have a set of pliers with a small serrated section that fits it well. That ain't ideal I know. I went to looking, and there is a guy on ebay that makes wrenches for the tool. He's in Russia, and they are about $30. I haven't purchased a set yet but plan to as my leatherman is a must have item.

For a wimpy little "gentleman's" pocket knife, most anything is quite good.

For a short, thin and very sharp locking/folding pocket knife get one from Walmart/Lowes, etc, that uses cheap interchangable disposable "utility" knife blades. (One of the hook type blades works great for slittin' animal hides before before gutting and skinning.)

For a practical man-sized folder, Buck's 112 is ideal.

For a compact folding belt knife/small tool kit, get a Gerber.

Gerber tool is okay if you can fit it on the belt. I carry my PST in my pocket with my car keys, since on my belt I already have a gun and reload and belt knife. I suppose I could drop the buck 110 and carry a tool in it's place. I always carry a belt knife, be it a buck 110 or a fixed blade like the 192.

One beef I have against the gerber tool, is the knife often rubs inside the handle and gets dull. Least the ones Ive had were like that.

I like the leatherman wave original and carried one on my belt several years, but it was too large for pocket carry.

I have and carry others, but my 100% of the time carry is the Victorinox Swiss army knife Farmer. It has a screwdriver that I use often and a saw that will cut 2 in trees and limbs.

I explained our family's favorite knife to a friend: "Grandpa's knife was just an ordinary folding pocket knife that was probably as cheaply made and quality as possible knowing him. He'd had it so long the small blade was broken off and the long blade was about an inch long and a 1/4 inch wide having been sharpened probably hundreds of times. Dad said Grandpa probably had the knife when he was a kid....he used it for everything being on a dairy farm including castrating pigs.
One day we showed up eating cucumbers. Mom asked us where we got the cucumbers "Grandpa!" Did he skin them? "Yes" With his toad stabber? "Of course!" Did he clean the knife? "On his pants" making a swiping motion. Mom went in the house."

Later on I added to our family treasure: A stab-toader is a small folding knife, a toad-stabber is more on the order of a Bowie knife (or a saber). I learned that in Graduate School deaned by my grandfather.
He showed us how to clean a jack knife on his pant-leg, sharpen it on his boot then shave a cucumber for each of us kids. We'd tell Mom Grandpa fed us a cucumbers for lunch. Mom would ask what knife he used. We'd say the one he used for everything like castrating hogs and cutting strings off the manure spreader. I think he hoped she understood he watched out for us keeping us fed and teaching us something new every day. She didn't bother asking if we washed our hands.

That’s me. When I’d cut a steak 🥩 for the kids in a restaurant, I’d try to recall if the last thing I cut was an envelope or a night crawler.

Butzbach, your steak comment reminded me of the time my buddy and I went to an upscale restaurant (well upscale for a couple of E-4s on payday) the server dropped off our steaks and the “special” steak knives and went off on her rounds, on her return trip thru she found the glorified butter knives with the empty beer bottles off to one side and us easily slicing thru our meat with our own knives. As it was a night out I would probably have been wearing my fancy knife, a Schrade Old Timer purchased from the Eillenville NY Factory Outlet store down the main drag from the factory.

Bazoo, I have other Leatherman models the kids have gotten me over the years but nothing seems to feel the same. I had a Gerber multi tool at one point but it kept pinching my hand and was moved along. I have my Dads Buck 110 around somewhere but it is in humble shape and barely usable. My Buck 110 got liberated by some grunts after an op along with my 782 gear.

I pretty much stopped carrying belt knives when I hung up my uniform and stated working for the Govt (frowned upon at the office) and constant air travel. So far I have only had to toss one small cheap Swiss army knock off at the TSA checkpoint I forgot I had in my bag.

I noticed the TL-29 also! used to cut the pliers part off and just keep the knife on my belt!
