Hi Gary, Hey if you are really interested in '22' boxes mfg by American companies the book you need is the "Tony Dunn" reference book. I've had mine for around 30 years, it covers around 1500 pages printed both sides. It may still be available from a gent by the name of Richard Rains, cost back then was around $80. I may have his info to get hold of him, been at least 10 years seeing him at a cartridge show. I'm sure that Richard had the largest 22 box collection, he also authored at least one book which I have, is about Winchester two-piece 22 boxes from 1873 to 1927 in color, should be listed on the net I'm sure.
Funny you mentioned Buttweiler, last time I seen him was 2000 or so in Chicago, is where the 'International Cartridge Show' was held. He got up on stage and about fell off, was quite under the influence, never seen him again, was released as editor of the cartridge news letter which was a really good letter.
You can check here.

I tried looking for the books, and came up with nothing.
Any directions????
Looks like I got carried away on the page count on the 'Tony Dunn' reference book. Think at one time or another Richard Rains had all those boxes on display at cartridge shows most likely at the 'Souix Falls, SD show, think I attended that show a least 15 years until health did a number on me.

I have a copy, not sure where it is, but I might could dig it out. What did you need to know?
The Tony Dunn reference is excellent, too.
Robert Buttweiler was a force in his time, but when he quit, he QUIT. Some really good stuff passed through his auctions.
While not a book, if your interested in .22 box identification, the 22box-id.com web page was amazing. Something happened and it was shut down... but the pages were captured by web-archive and can still be viewed. Web-archive can also be used for many other websites that have been closed... Here's a link....

What is the title of the Tony Dunn book?????
Tony Dunn's book is titled: "A Catalog of the 22 boxes of the USA"
