    pricing scrap lead

My local scrapyard has lino for $1/lb, clean lead for $.66/lb, and wheel weights for $.50/lb.

Are these reasonable prices, I've never bought lead before, just gotten small amounts for cheap/free before. I want to stock up for the spring when I'll have more time to do some bigger casting sessions.

    Thanks
    Barry

Metal prices are dropping, that seems high to me. I personally would sit back and wait if your current supplies of casting alloy would let you do that.

Recently I paid .25 cents a lb for WW and .35 cent a lb for pure lead from a local recycler.

London metal exchange price is in the 41-42¢ a pound Kitco at around 44¢. Seems like a premium to me and unless it is cast in handy ingots, I'd keep looking.

Asking is free, so counteroffer 50% of those prices and see if they are interested in making any money today.

I'd buy the Lino for $1, you don''t find it on every street corner.

i'd counter with half or less on everything but the lino...
tell him you'll buy x amount of lino at 1 buck, but at least twice as much of the others at 1/2.....

lead scarp is in the dumper....he should be happy to get rid of some.....

    take cash.....

I paid 40 cents/lb. for plain lead at recycler 3 months ago when scrap prices were at a premium.
Like others said I would wait on the WW & lead.

I called a local scrap/ recycling yard here in the OC about 2 weeks ago.

Told them I had 200 LBs of lead to sell just to see what they would offer me.

Got told that lead had fallen so badly they wouldn't take it for free!

I'm thinking wait a week and then figure out how much you can afford to spend and then make an offer around .32 a lb.

Don't try this if you only want 5 lbs!

I just bought 800 lbs. of WW's for 15¢ a lb. last week. Here is the web page that I use for the current pricing: http://www.metalworld.com/a/0137.html

FYI LTL is less than a truck load and TL is Truck Load

Take all the lino you can get....

I paid 40 cents a pound for either lead or wheel weights last week here in SW WA state. They actually raised the ww price by 5 cents a pound, and decreased the lead price by 10 cents a pound.
With WW getting harder to come by, I'm stockpiling as much as I can.

    Happy Shootin'! -Tom

I thought that it was a little bit high, I might wait a couple weeks to see if it goes down, then make an offer. The economy around here hasn't dropped as much as other parts of the country, which is good, but some of the inflated prices are still hanging around.

Just realize that even though you are going to buy LESS that a truck load (20 tons) you will be paying the higher truck load price....this is the price that the recycler will be selling for.....they will only be selling full TL "upstream"
