    its Mushroom season...

    this is my weekend....

first off, as some of you know, we went after the Prized Bears Head and Lions Mane mushrooms.... and we found this in a old logging area. each vid is about 20 seconds.

plus we shot a young forky that was just laying there thinking he was hidden behind a bush with my 308... no story there but great meat.

and then yesterday, we decided in honor of the anniversary of us discovering a certain unknown waterfall the year prior, we grabbed the little lund made our way to the top end of a chain of lakes we hunt. once at the inlet of the lake, we climbed, crawled, waded and hiked (no trails) almost to the next lake in the chain following a small stream and finally made it to here.... we caught several really nice wild trout pocket fishing and had a wonderful time.. came home with some fishies... collapsed once we got home let me tell ya.. and now I will take it easy for a couple days processing what we got and recovering..

Great videos! Thanks for making and posting them. Very educational, as I have never seen that type of mushroom before. Around here, and in many other parts of Oregon, they prize Chantrel mushrooms. Not sure if that's spelled correctly. Some folks actually take time off work at a certain time of year to go and find them. There used to be a thriving business exporting them to Japan, but I think that has tapered off somewhat. They mostly go armed, as there were numerous incidents of successful gatherers being robbed of their finds, which can be quite valuable. You certainly seem to be living in a sportsman's paradise, but I imagine that your season of enjoying the great outdoors is somewhat limited by your climate. Anyway, good for you! I'm curious, how do you cook the mushrooms, and how long will they store?

the bears head doesnt seem to like being dried, so I sauté them and then vac pak them for freezing in single serving portions. they will last the entire year that way. i have also canned them....
