    oversize boolit tricks

For you folks loading oversize boolits, say .002" over nominal, what is the trick to keep the brass from reducing the diameter of the boolit? Are you using harder lead as in water quenched WW, or have you found a way to hone out your carbide sizing die so the brass is looser? I'm loading air cooled WW .402 boolits in a dillon thats expects .400 and am losing some diameter. Barrel just beyond throat slugs out to .401. Any help will be appreciated.

Use an expander with a diameter .002" less than optimal boolit diameter. Contact Dillon on availibility of one, or have a machine shop make one.

I load paper patched bullets so as a rule I do not size the case at all. The only one I do is my Marlin in 45-70, and then just a bit. I do crimp for my levers but again just as little as possible.

Good afternoon What size are your FIRED cases compared to the boolits you want to seat ?
On my 44-40 Winny 1892 here it has a very wide open throat so I use a soft (40-1) .432+ boolit. My fired cases are NECK sized only about 2/3 of the neck then belled open to recieve the boolit. The loaded case is rolled crimped and there is PLENTY of neck tension holder things together.

I'm loading for pistol using a dillon square deal which uses dillon dies only. I'll have to check with them to see if a custom expander is available. I'm guessing not. thanks for the ideas oneokie.

pdawg - in my case sizing is a must. thanks, though.
