How to turn 15 BHN Alloy To 10 BHN Alloy

Just wondering if someone could help me out here.

Using the pencil test, my alloy comes out to 15 BHN. I would like to make some that is 10 BHN so that I can get some expansion since the 15 BHN bullets go right through the feral dogs I have been hunting.

How much pure lead should I add to make ten pounds of 10 BHN bullets. I am terrible at math so be kind.

Here's a link to a Lead alloy calculator.
Check it out and plug in your numbers and get a result.

Since I don't know the exact ratio of tin to lead in my mix now how would I figure that using the ratio calculator?

I looked at the lyman #2 mix which is 15 BHN, would I use that as a start?

Still new to using the Lead alloy calculator. But plugging in 3lbs of lyman #2 and 7lbs of pure lead says you should get 10 lbs with a BHN 10.4

In so many words: how many pounds of lead (6 BHN) is needed to "water down" 15 BHN alloy to 10 BHN alloy. Set up the ratio...

    15 BHN equals X BHN
    10 BHN ..........6 BHN

    Solve for "X" such that 10X = 90, so X = 6.

What does that mean? Test the answer.

15 BHN * 4 lbs plus 6 BHN * 6 lbs equals 96 BHN-lbs (weird Units) divide by total weight of new alloy (10 lbs) and it is 9.6 BHN (10 pounds worth).
If it was easy, anybody could do it.

IF you have pure lead (apr 5 bhn) just mix the 15/pure 1/1 15+5=20/ 2 pounds of lead = 10

Scroll down this page and find the thread titled "Mixing an alloy...confusion".
In post #4 there's a link to a Utube video with exactly what you're looking for.

OK, went to look at the YouTube video and if I understood him right it should take 5 pounds of #2 and five pounds of Pure Lead. Am I right on this?

BTW math and I have never gotten along.

How to calculate your lead alloy blending for bullets
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Y0raK6_Vbk&t=47s

If you are going to powder coat the casts...expect that little 20 minute trip through 400Ίƒ to increase the outcome by at least 2 points in about 3 days. Measure it in 3 days, no sooner. Over time, this will increase some, how much I can't speculate without BNE doing a scan on your lead, then we could use a modified RotoMetals formula.

    Estimated hardness calculated by Rotometals formula: Brinell = lead - 8.60 + ( 0.29 * %Tin ) + ( 0.92 * %Antimony )

Whichever method you choose...let us know the outcome...OK?

If you plan to powder coat then mix your blend for a target of 2 points less than 10bhn.
Experiment with some small batches because what you or others may consider soft lead is miles apart from 5bhn pure lead.

    I wish you the best!

What makes you think you need expansion on feral dogs? Put it in the boiler room, hole on both sides = dead dog.
I truly believe we need to get back to basics.

Congratulations - now Book Mark the link
PS: Might want to consider a Lee Lead Hardness Tester too

Because on my wife's property we have aluminum building which I don't wish to put wholes in. She gets a bit fussy and testy about that. Also I would like to know where my bullets go.

On feral hogs I need them to get every ounce of energy. Like wise deer.
