Help me here. Did Ruger or did Ruger not make a run of No.3's years ago in the .30-40 cartridge? Or was it just one of my dreams. james

I don’t remember the order of #3s but : 22 Hornet , 223, 30/40, 44mg, 45/70, 375Win. And I think 257 Roberts, but I never saw one. Maybe they never got them into production. I had them all except the 257R. The ones I’ve had in 30/06,300 W, 338W and 45/70. Now only got three #3s.
    A 223 and two in 375Win.
I had several Hornets, all bought used. Never got one I considered keeper accuracy. The 223 shoots very well. It is my main walk about gun for varmits. The rest of them shoot well for what they are, hunting rifles. The 45/70 is a bit unpleasant with heavy loads.

My no3 45-70 will shoot under an inch at 100 yards with a 300 grain Sierra and 50 grains of reloader 7 1823 FPS , and under an inch with 60 grains 3031 and the 300 grain Sierra JHP 1973 , under an inch with the 300 grain barns semi spitzer on 63 grains RL7 , 2490 FPS and about 2" with a cast 300 GC rnfp mine weigh 322 lubed and checked on 34 grains RL7 . Did not chronograph in the 1400 to 1500 range I think.
I used to shoot a lot of the Barnes load but no more. The throat in mine is so short I have to seat 400 grain Speer bullets very deep but 56 grains of 3031 and the 400 gave me 1835 and about 21/2" groups.

    Don't believe there was ever a 257 R No.3

The rest of the list is correct.
