    powder in 45 Schofield?

I need some help with powder. I don't have any of the powders listed in my loading manual. I have been using Reloader 15 and 3031 and didn't watch my other powders. Do have Black Powder so can load it but would like smokeless. I have both 200 gr and 250 gr RNFP as I load Black in the .45 Colt. .45 Colt will not fit in my 2nd Model S&W Schofield and it doesn't handle black real well, not like the ones made in the 1800's. I do have a lot of WST that I use in .45 Colt from load data off of here.

Unique would probably work well in the Schofield.

At the lower pressures and velocities of the Schofield Unique does not ignite well or burn uniformly, giving erratic velocity and leaving unburned powder particles in the gun.

If you want a safe, clean-burning, smokeless load 4 grains of Bullseye, TiteGroup or WST with a 230-grain bullet approximates service velocity in the Starline cases with standard primers at 1.50" OAL. It is OK to increase the charge to as much as 5 grains in modern reproductions, if it improves accuracy, but I would not do so in an original Schofield!

The loads are for a new S&W Schofield.

Although I like WST in 38 Special and 45 ACP, Hodgdon does not list any loads for WST in 45 Schofield. In fact, they list loads for the two cartridges in which I use WST and one other, 40 S&W. That's not to say WST won't work in the Schofield, it probably will. If I needed data for 45 Schofield using WST powder, I would call Hodgdon.

The only 'new' Smith and Wesson Schofields were made in 2000. I assume you have the Uberti?

Alliant lists load data for a 230gr boolit with American Select, Unique, and Bullseye.

I would listen to what Outpost75 says.

If it were me, I would look at powders that work well in both the .45 ACP and the .45 Colt. My reasoning is that if it works well in both, it should work in the Schofield.

I would bet that something in the range of Bullseye or W231 would be fine.

Wow, same with mine. Just turned enough in the store to have a turn line. 250 gr. NOE solid, 6.4 gr Unique is my load.

I like 5 grains of Trailboss under a 200 grain slug in my 45 Scolfield loads.

    5.5 Unique under the NOE version of the 454424 in a Bubba'd 1917 .
Standard 45 ACP start data should get you started .

The Schofield is listed in the Lyman #4 CBH .

Red Dot , might be easier to find right now than most of the pistol powders and in my experience it works well in low pressure loads.
