    odd question??

this is a off question and maybe a temp solution to a problem.. could a person run a .3095 bullet threw at .311 lube sizer die lubing the bullet and putting a gas check on "provided the gas check was crimped on well" and shoot them ok with the .311 sized gas check and the rest of the bullet being about .3095-.310?

In essence, the gas check would get resized to .310 if it’s crimping on tight.

what i was looking to do is use my .311 sizing die for my lube sizer to add as gas check and lube them, i am planning to down the road get a .310 sizing die but i am waiting untill i know what all sizes i need/ want.

I do not think you will have much luck trying to stick a .311 gas check on a smaller bullet with a .311 sizer.

They are not going to size down enough to grab tight. Your going to lose checks, have checks come of inside brass necks, etc.

Some will depend on exactly what gun you are shooting them in and what it needs for size.

In my experience you are better off sizing down a bigger bullet which will really crimp the check into place.

Or shooting something like the Lee .314 sized to .311 with no check and keep the speeds below 1400 fps or thereabouts.

Bullet Fit is king, starting off with poor fit just sets you up for failure.

Ryan, if you cast them soft and don't push them too hard it's doable. You are relying on the bullet to bump up to fill the grooves, but the above statements are correct about loosing your gas checks.

Try to bend a 30 cal gas check with your fingers. Ask yourself it it took 30,000 lbs of pressure. 30 cal checks fit bullets designed for bases at diameters from .308" to .316". It will fit to the barrel.
I have run bullets through a larger die just to lube them several times. It can get them messy if they're undersized but will not harm your groups if the bullet fit the chamber.

i am going to check the diameter on the shank where the gas check gose vs a lee C312-185.

also the gas checks i am using are the lee 30 cal ones..

what i was wondering is if the gas check was .311 but the rest of the bullet was a tad under .309 to .310 if that would be ok.
