    Question WC844 or WC846??

WC-846 Surplus- for 223 thru 308, military rifle ball powder, Has a burning rate from a little faster than H335 to almost the same as BLC2, reduce BLC-2 starting data by 10% to start, Some starting data on jug for 308 data, 8#- $79.00

WC 844- original US Government 223 Surplus rifle powder, use H335 starting load data to work up loading data , 8#- $72.00 Ball powder
I use a LOT of AA 2015 and am curious which one of these would be closest to it in burning rate?

How do these powders compare to RL-7?

H322 is roughly equivalent to AA2015. Both are single base powders.
RL7 is a double base powder, and is just a mite slower than the 4198s,
and is slightly faster than 3031.
844 and 846 are double base powders.

...........Felix, are you sure on that Re-7 deal? I've never used it but I'd heard it was just a bit FASTER then 4198? To lazy to get up and go out to the shop to check 'da books', but thats's what I'd always thought.

Buckshot, you can very well be correct that the current RL7 might be faster than the fastest 4198 lot out there. When they updated the powders, they went to a 10 percent nitroglycerine mix for RL7. That would change things from the older version having 5 percent nitroglycerine, and would require other changes to compensate to keep the speeds the same. So, in retrospect, I don't think they wanted the same speed as the old RL7, but a faster one to more compete with the 4198s. Just like what they did to the 2400 brand, to get out of the way of the competition in the same speed range. Getting back to the RL7, More nitro by itself tends to up the speed some, and also the top end energy quite a bit. Might have to get a can to do a real compare in small and in large cases. ... felix
