Dimensionally, the round is kinda, sorta a .45-90 with a different rim configuration, chambered in rifles much sturdier than an 1874 Sharps. It's an exercise in artillery and finding enough elevation in your sighting apparatus, but you can lob large bullets about as far as you care to lob them with such a round.
