looks to me like "cut away" dies ....to show how the internals work...like a "cut away" gas engine or rifle.

They look like Vickerman seating dies to me.
I don't know what case they would be used on.It looks like it would have to be straight walled, and small diameter ,and why is there no depth adjustment on top?
Yep, open front bullet seating dies. Easier to put bullets straight, in place for seating. Skeettx and 762Sultan are correct, possible manufacturers. Usually high end dies often used for "benchrest"...
The open portion is above the case neck/mouth so it may look small, but the ID is only caliber diameter/bullet diameter at that point...

Cocking stud and ejector Stevens 15a
They look like Vickerman dies, but should have the name stamped on the front.
Some other company is making them now, so maybe the new versions aren’t marked.
They’re supposed to guide the bullet into the case neck with minimum runout. Lyman made a Precision Alignment “PA” die that does the same thing.
I find they’re great for cast boolits because the squeezed-out lube from seating comes out the front of the seating window rather than packing up under the seating stem. You can do a long session of boolit seating without having to remove the die and clean out the inside to keep the boolit from being seated gradually deeper in the case.
I see the real ones going for $35-$50 a pop at Gun Shows.
My vote for original seller would be Herter's. They subcontracted machining to anyone who could do the lathe work, but didn't necessarily have stamping tools.
I have 6 Vickerman Seating dies. They are extremely nice on a progressive press without a bullet feeder. Now with all the heavy and long bullets being used I have had to make a feed ramp sort of like the feed ramp in an auto. They allow me to stand upright and feed the beast. So I can go have more time playing. I had to get one out I knew it was stamped W.S. Vickerman Moses Lake, WN two lines with the Name over the city and state. Now I know that I am not the only person with them.

Herter's dies, including the window seating dies were made by C-H. These are Vickerman, not C-H.
love the vickerman seating die for the smaller bullets. Drop in and go. My fingers cant hold on to those tiny things.
What’s the writing above the knurling say?
Great thread! Just about the time you think you have this boolit thing corralled . . . .
